Erek Sittig grew up on a family farm near Waterloo, Iowa. He graduated from Waterloo West High School and went on to earn a Bachelors Degree in Agricultural Business from Iowa State University. While at Iowa State, Erek was accepted into the College of Agriculture's honor fraternity, Alpha Zeta.
After college, Erek got married, returned to the Waterloo area and joined the staff of the Iowa Northland Regional Council of Governments as Flood Coordinator. During his two years at INRCOG, Erek administered federal and state disaster assistance grants across a number of counties and cities in northeast Iowa.
Erek moved on to law school at the University of Iowa College of Law. He earned his Juris Doctor degree with high honors for public service and was a member of the Iowa Law Review. Erek and his wife were very happy to welcome a daughter shortly after his law school graduation and welcomed a little boy four years later, providing a perfect sibling for a wonderful big sister.
Since becoming a member of the Iowa Bar, Erek spent time as a Trust Officer at a regional bank in Iowa City before entering private practice in North Liberty and then Cedar Rapids. In private practice, Erek has experience representing clients in a wide variety of matters, from criminal defense to probate, real estate to bankrutcy, family law to general civil litigation. As part of his practice, Erek currently serves as the Assistant City Attorney for the cities of North Liberty, Palo and Walford.
Erek believes that public service is extremely important. He has volunteered his time to serve on city commissions and has spent hours working with the Iowa Legal Aid Volunteer Layers Project to assist unrepresented litigants with their cases.
Erek is a member of the Johnson County, Linn County and Iowa State Bar Associations, as well as the Iowa Municipal Attorneys Association. Following the floods of 2008, he was appointed to the Floodplain Management and Hazard Mitigation Task Force of the Rebuild Iowa Commission.
